"Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated"
Matthew 6:11 says, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." It is not in the lives of others that we are called to seek the Lord. We are called to seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness first. Colossians 1:13 tells us, "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son whom he loves." This scripture shows us that we were born into the kingdom of darkness. As we seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, God rescues us from the dominion of darkness, the one we were born into because like Esau, Adam also sold his birthright to the snake. The kingdom of the Son whom God loves is only found in Christ, Gods only Son. Jesus is the Word of God made manifest. That is the only way to come to know him is through his Word, not through the letter of the law but the Spirit. The letter of the law kills but the Spirit gives life. (2 Cor 3:6).
1 John 5:10 declares that, "Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is his testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in the Son. Whoever has the Son has life, whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life."
Ephesians 1:4, "For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves."
Everything that God has promised is in Christ, in the Son whom he loves.
Romans 9:12 shows us that this is not by works that Gods election might stand, but it is by him who calls, Rebekah was told, the older will serve the younger. What does this mean? Think about this. Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated. The older will serve the younger. Also in Matthew 20:16 we see that the last will be first, and the first shall be last. The first Adam sold his birthright just like Esau. God, then, set aside the first to establish the second. And by that will we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Esau lived by and hungered for what could feed his stomach. Adam sold his birthright for what pleased the eye. They both lived by what they could see. Living by what we see is the opposite of living by faith. God has mercy on those who live by the Spirit. Those who walk in the flesh gratify the desires of their flesh. Those who God hardens are those who live by the flesh. He has mercy on those who live by the Spirit. He hardens those who he wants to harden and has mercy on those who he wants to have mercy. It is not individual people. God is not sitting on his throne saying, that one I will harden and that one I will harden and this one over here I will have mercy. That is not how God operates. He predestined his purpose before the world ever began. Just like before Esau or Jacob did anything good or bad, when they were in the womb, in the order that his election might stand not by works but by him who calls- she was told, "The older will serve the younger." Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved but Esau I hated." It is the letter of the law that kills, but the Spirit gives life. What does this mean? God gave Adam one command. A command is a single word for order of operation. God created this man and told him how to operate. The man was deceived by what he saw and lost his birthright because he did not believe the command God gave him. All of mankind fell because one man disobeyed and did not consider the Word of God worth it to obey. In this fall the hearts of mankind hardened. God then sent forth his law to man to show man that they were falling short of his purpose for mankind. And the letter of this law brought forth the ministry of death. I will go into that further at another time. It's the letter of the law that kill but the Spirit gives life. If we read scripture as information and not through revelation there will be no transformation. Revelation knowledge comes through relationship with the Word of God, who is God. It is in the Word of God that Jesus the Son of God is revealed. When the Son whom God loves is revealed, we have the opportunity to receive him or deny him. It is only in him, the Son whom God loves that we are rescued from the kingdom of darkness. God does not desire for anyone to perish. But many do perish for the lack of knowledge. Blame means assign responsibility to. God has assigned the responsibility to us to search for him, to seek first his kingdom, to come after him, to follow him, and when we do- we become in him and old things pass away and all things become new. It's out of the same lump of clay that the flesh and the spirit come, the flesh for common use and the spirit for special purposes. Flesh is made for destruction as shown through out scripture. Death is also made for destruction- but it is out of death that God brought forth life through his Son. It is out of darkness that God brought forth light. It is out of the objects of his wrath that he also makes known his mercy. It is in the same place where God says you are not my people that they were called children of the living God. It was in Rebekahs womb where the twins were conceived that God purposed the older would serve the younger. The first would sell his birthright to the on who would deceive, that his purpose and election might stand not by works, but by him who calls. 1 Thessalonians 5:24, "The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it."
