False Humility

  Have you ever really thought about what true humility is? We hear people say all the time to "Be humble" or "Stay humble." But what does that even mean? True humility understands that we as human beings are not sovereign. Pride, really isn't thinking higher of yourself than you ought. Pride is actually thinking that we know more or know better than our designer. Maybe you are a believer or perhaps you are an unbeliever. But either way one thing is for sure, you are not self made! False humility will however have you focusing on yourself. Even considering lowly of yourself is false humility. Do you know why? Because true humility is surrender. Surrender means to cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority. Like I said, maybe you are a believer or maybe you aren't. Either way this is for you and I am going to talk to you like you are a believer. Humility can not exist without surrender. As fallen man we are by nature enemies of God. What I mean by that is the nature of fallen man or man without God opposes God. Man apart from surrender is hostile to God. In his mind, man is governed by his flesh which is his fallen state. This was not God's design for His creation. That is why it's called the fall of man. Man sinned and fell short of the glory of God (ROMANS 3:23). Because God gave man dominion on the earth, God had to then become a man to save His creation from from death which was our payment for this fall. We owed this debt called death. Death means to live apart from God. God gave us the Law to show us that apart from Him the Law could not be fulfilled. No one could obey the law because it was weakened by mortal flesh. Have you ever thought about mortal flesh? Mortal means fatal, causing death. This flesh causes death. Those who live according to their flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God and does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those who remain in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. The good news is that we don't have to remain in the realm of the flesh. We don't have to live in resistance to the authority of God! We can be free! Free from being a slave to our fallen nature. We can actually come in agreement with the Word of God and carry out His intention for His creation. His purpose was never that we live apart from Him, His purpose was always to have communion with us. Being separate from Him leaves us incomplete and always feeling like something is missing. Being apart from God will have you saying things like, "If I could just get the guy or the girl or the job, if I could just make more money, if I could just move here or have more friends." It is because apart from God you will always feel like something is missing in your life no matter what you achieve. Many people often pray a prayer to God not ever coming to know the God they pray to. Thinking him to be a higher power of some sort but never really coming to know Him or the knowledge of truth because they have no understanding. Let me help you out if you are wanting to know God. There is only one way to Him and it is through His Son, Jesus. If you, like millions of other people in the world have went other ways to this "higher power" I promise you, you do not know God. However there is no doubt in my mind that you could be experiencing a power but it is definitely the power of darkness controlled by the prince and power of the air. There is no freedom under that power and there is no authority. Honestly only pride exists there. It is a place where you get puffed up on knowledge or even the lack thereof, submitting to whatever feels good to you. You might have convinced yourself that you are in submission or surrender to a higher power of authority. But if you are still hostile to God and the things of God perhaps you are in false humility. False humility will always exalt self and not God. False humility will also have you living less than what you were created for. It is not humble to stay bound to your sin especially if you confess that Jesus has forgiven you of your sin. Forgiven actually means released from. If you have been released form something then you are no longer bound to it. That is why when you come to know Christ old things pass away and all things become new. If you are struggling with anything that is leaving you feeling hopeless or broken I promise you that if you come to know truth, that truth will set you free!
